Meet Our Executive Artistic Director

Tarra McCain is the Executive Artistic Director and is one of the Board Members of Fort Bend Theatre. Joining the theatre in 1991, she was instrumental in developing programs, classes, outreach performances, and expanding the theatre from an audience of 2000 per year to over 20,000 annually.  She has served as Quad IV chair for Texas Non-Profit Theatre, serving alongside of other theatre professionals to further excellence in the arts in the state of Texas.  As an actress, Ms. McCain received her earliest training at the Alley Theatre of Houston, and has performed in many local venues and genres, including film and commercial. Her talents include scenic design and construction, costume design and construction, lighting design, playwriting, choreography, teaching, producing, and directing. To date, she has directed over 200 shows, including Les MisérablesA Comedy of Errors, Arsenic and Old Lace,Wizard of Oz, Annie, Peter Pan and Tony and Tina’s Wedding, many with casts of over 100.  Ms. McCain has received numerous awards from Texas Non-Profit Theatre for Excellence in Scenic Design and Costume Design, along with Performance Awards from TNT for the cast of shows she directed. In her spare time, she has served in the drama ministry at Sugar Creek Baptist Church and directed their biggest productions with large casts of over 200, and taught drama at Logos Preparatory Academy.

Ms. McCain is a Houston native who graduated from the High School for Performing & Visual Arts with a Theatre Degree/Dance Minor and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Houston. As the mother of three children, and the grandmother of five, the sibling of 11, and a former children’s pastor and teacher, she believes strongly in educating youth in a safe, enriching, family environment where they can work and grow alongside of professionals. One of her greatest theatre joys is watching young people flourish and achieve their goals, as FBT trained actors and students continue to further their career in film, television, Disney contracts, and professional theatre.
